The Sherlock to his Moriarty, the Sholmès to his Lupin. Ren feels an undeniable, practically magnetic attraction to Akechi. His attraction easily turned into obsession. Perhaps even more so, now that there's no reason for Akechi to keep his persona of the Detective Prince going. Ren has this fantasy that he'll convince Akechi to fall to the dark side, become a Phantom Thief in his own right, but deep down he understands that it is far more likely he will end up corrupted by Akechi than the other way around. But Ren is more than happy to do anything Akechi might ask him to, more than happy to keep up their rivalry and their constant competitions, and in return Ren is determined to convince Akechi to stay in Folkmore, with him. Even after the horrible betrayals and lies upon lies, Ren's completely smitten through the fear that Akechi might decide he looks better with a bullet in his head.

Mai's got a good head on her shoulders and is undeniably a good person. Ren would almost feel bad for getting this one to join their ranks if not for the fact that she's clearly making her own choice here. ...Plus, selfishly, he likes having someone with a Persona who is less skilled than he currently is. Helps remind Ren that he's the leader here. Her experience with the supernatural will undoubtedly come in handy in a place like this. Mai's sharp sense of things and the fact that she's Akechi's neighbor make it a bit harder to keep their little trysts a secret. But Ren's just not thinking about the fact that she's definitely heard things at this point.

The man, the myth, the best friend: Ryuji Sakamoto. They've been together since the beginning of all this, and Ren knows he'd never be able to finish the Phantom Thieves' mission without Ryuji. Even if his big mouth did just very nearly gets them all in huge trouble, that was part of Ryuji's charm, first of all, and secondly it all works out in the end anyway. It's weird having his punk-ass blond friend know more about all this than he does, but Ren's getting used to it. He's even used to Ryuji-senpai dolling out some decent advice now and then, which Ren stupidly listens to like it's good advice. If nothing else, he trusts Ryuji genuinely has his best interests at heart, and knows he won't get charmed by Akechi to the point it causes a lapse in judgement.

How do you do, fellow wildcard? There's something decidedly off about the way Minato's described Igor and the Velvet Room compared to Ren's experiences, but he figures that's Probably Nothing™. The process for summoning magical demon things is bound to change over the years; it's natural. But there's something weird about this that Ren can't quite completely shake, no matter how hard he tries. But nonetheless, he undeniably likes Minato and sees him as a valuable asset and sounding board for all things Persona-related. The fact that Minato likes coffee and has agreed to work at Ren's café when it opens is an additional boon.

Casey's a good kid who's been through a lot, too much really, and Ren is going to try his hardest to not fuck him up more and get him involved in the larceny like he tends to do. But he's more than happy to have a taste tester for his curry experiments, at least, and that of all things shouldn't lead to too many dark places. ...Probably. Kasum- Err, Sumire is quite the change from the version of her he knows back home. ...And yet, at the same time, isn't at all different. She's still sweet and earnest and the best damn gymnast Ren's probably ever going to meet. The fact that she's able (and willing) to protect him now is new, but not unappreciated. Plus, he likes having a neighbor around. Even if she does knock on his door entirely too early to go out and do stretches by the lakes some mornings, he really likes her and values her opinion.
