❥ Folkmore Roles & Attributes

Skills:
☕️ pour over, espresso drinks
☕️ cooking, but really mostly only curry
☕️ parkour, acrobatics
☕️ for some reason this child knows how to shoot a gun
☕️ larceny
☕️ standing up for the weak and downtrodden at his own expense
Canon Abilities:
🃏 Wildcard: Thanks to his insane level of willpower, Ren is more or less equivalent to a D&D style Warlock - he has entered into a contact with Igor (...well...) which lets him use any Persona he can fuse, and switch between them at will. Each of these Persona will give Ren different stats, weaknesses, and strengths. I'm going to have Ren join the game with one Persona (Arsene, at level 25) and buy others with spoons down the line when I decide... Who else I want him to have, honestly lol.
🗡️ Arsene - deals Curse (Dark) damage, is weak to Ice and Bless (Light) damage.
🃏 Third Eye: Ren can see weak/breakable structural elements, valuable stuff, and the relative strength of enemies in his minds' eye.
Role: Familiar
Role Qualities/Attributes: Ren will be able to turn into a black Rex rat, sometimes with a little mask.
Role Reasoning: Ren is extremely adaptable. As the protag of a Persona game, the entire shtick is that he wears many masks and can get on with anyone and adapt to any person or situation that comes his way. He decidedly does not have clear-cut morals; he becomes a thief to help others, despite the potential threat that Kamoshida might die from stealing his heart and making him fess up to his (awful, awful) crimes: It's a worthwhile risk to potentially become a murderer if it helps people. It's worth it to stop a woman from getting hurt even if it means going to jail himself and sacrificing his reputation. Furthermore, as a Wildcard, Ren's strength is in his bonds with others; getting to dedicate to Legends and Myths would scratch his back Persona-wise (they are powered up when he attains a stronger bond with the right person) as much as it would help someone else.

❥ Personality

Please choose one of the follow options for your personality section. Please clarify which option you have picked and, if option 2, which questions you are answering:

Option 2. Choose FOUR-FIVE of the following questions to answer and expand upon. You may choose a fifth question if you feel it is integral to your character's personality. Each answer has a 100-300 word requirement.

OPTION 2 QUESTIONS (PICK 4-5) 100-300 WORD LIMIT EACH:

  • What experience challenged your character's core beliefs? How did they handle this or change from it?
Getting arrested rocked Ren to his core. While he's a good person doing something he clearly sees as good, in the eyes of society and the law, he totally assaulted a guy who wasn't doing anything wrong. Prior to that, he was probably a good, law-abiding citizen who never got into trouble doing anything, though we don't really know what he was like before that. After, he turned into a little rebellious shit, partially from realizing he can do good and help people in a better way by stepping outside of society's guidelines, but also partially because every adult in his life at the beginning of his probation treats him like garbage. Why not cause havoc at that point? Why not break the law to do the right thing? Because, after all, it seems like it's the only way anything gets done.

  • What is a headcanon (or two) you feel strongly about and that you prefer playing your character with? How is this supported in canon and why do you think it benefits the character's story?
Like all Persona protagonists, he is actually bisexual. While, yes, Ren Amamiya likes girls (and, trust me, there is enough going on in the main game to support that part, lmao), he also decidedly doesn't fear male intimacy either. Ryuji kind of exists as his foil in that regard, as someone who's quick to be skeeved out by the idea of two dudes kissing. Yusuke, as the local artist of the group, also exists in that Foil To Ryuji realm because of his casual approach to nudity (saying again, he's an artist, he's used to figure drawing). Yusuke gets plenty of hints he's a bit of a 🍒🍓🍎 from dialogue and the like, but because Ren's a silent, malleable protagonist, we don't get to see quite that obvious of an indication from him, but nonetheless, he's clearly comfortable with the idea based on some dialogue options. For Valentine's Day, if he doesn't have a girl to hang out with, he asks Ryuji to hang out instead, which Ryuji gets very huffy about, but nonetheless.

  • What is your character's moral code? Do they have one? Why or why not?
While he does have a moral code, it doesn't align with Adult Society™️ super well. He's not the type to sit down and shut up; Ren's going to stand up and scream. His tendency to stand up against injustice and unfairness, despite the risks to himself, shows that he clearly has a strong moral code, it's just different from the average law abiding citizen's. Ren thoroughly understands he's breaking the law, but doesn't really care because he also thoroughly understands he's doing the right thing. To put him on a D&D scale: Ren's Chaotic Neutral, leaning Chaotic Good; he's into freedom and individuality, and is more than happy to break laws if it means helping others.

  • If your character could change one thing about their past, what would it be and why? Or why not?
Ren wouldn't change a thing. It's so easy to say that he'd obviously not stop to help that woman being bothered on the street which resulted in that politician getting hurt and getting himself arrested... But the fact is, he just wouldn't. During Arsene's initial summoning, he's asked if it was a foolish choice to help her. The player has the choice of arguing or admitting that maybe it was a mistake; mine argued. Also, one of Igor's tenants of the Velvet Room makes it clear that Ren's rehabilitation involves him taking responsibility for his actions, a thing that remains consistent through the other Persona games as well. Ren simply wouldn't be a very good Wildcard if he was willing to change his prior gut instincts.
